Man Shot To Death Outside Apartment In Sarasota

SARASOTA - SARASOTA A 31-year-old man was fatally shot this afternoon as he sat outside his apartment, authorities said.
Johnnie Williams III died before a medical helicopter arrived at the apartment complex, 1912 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota police said.
Police responded to the complex about 5:30 p.m. and found Williams with a gunshot wound in his chest, authorities said.
The gunman was wearing a mask and approached Williams, firing at least once from close range, authorities said. The suspect ran away.
Police remain at the scene interviewing witnesses. North Orange Avenue was closed for about three hours after the shooting while investigators worked the crime scene.
