RICHMOND, Va. - Clint Bowyer already had assured his spot in the Chase for NASCAR's biggest championship, and he looked as if he was about to pad his lead in another one.
Carl Edwards had another idea Sunday night.
Passing Bowyer for the lead with 28 laps to go, then pulling away through three restarts the rest of the way, Edwards won for the fourth time this season in the Nationwide Series and cut slightly into Bowyer's prohibitive points lead.
Scott Wimmer finished second, Bowyer was third and Denny Hamlin was fourth.
IRL: At Joliet, Ill., Helio Castroneves won the race in the closest finish in the history of the IndyCar Series, but it wasn't enough to stop Scott Dixon from taking his second championship.
Castroneves came from last place to win the PEAK Indy 300, but Dixon, who knew coming in he only had to finish eighth or better to win the title, finished second behind Castroneves by inches.
FORMULA ONE: Felipe Massa was declared the winner of the Belgian Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton was penalized for cutting a corner during a late duel with world champion Kimi Raikkonen.
