TAMPA - The University of South Florida football program was hit with tragedy again with the death of former USF linebacker Mike Minus on Monday night.
He was 27.
Minus is the fourth former USF player that has died, including three since January 2007.
Minus was killed when the semi-trailer truck he was driving overturned on Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 31 shortly before midnight Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol told the Sun Sentinel.
Minus was eastbound when he drifted off the roadway into the grassy median, Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said. Minus then veered back across the eastbound lanes of traffic and overturned on the south shoulder of the roadway in an area filled with standing water. Minus died at the scene and the cause of the crash is under investigation, Wysocky told the Sun Sentinel.
