TAMPA - Still recovering from ankle injuries, University of South Florida RBs Mike Ford and Ben Williams did not practice Monday and their status for Friday against Kansas is unknown, USF coach Jim Leavitt said.
Starting WR Marcus Edwards (ribs) and backup CB Tyson Butler (ankle) also didn't practice Monday.
STILL KICKING: K Delbert Alvarado has missed three of four field goals, but Leavitt was non-committal about if he would replace him.
"We've got to figure out a way to get the ball through the uprights, hopefully," Leavitt said. "It's both the protection and the kicking. We've got to resolve some things.
"I'm going to make a decision. Delbert's a very good kicker, but remember, he's done the punting and kicking. He's done a lot of good things, hit a lot of great field goals here. It's not always just about the kicker. We've got to protect as well."
UPON FURTHER REVIEW: UCF coach George O'Leary sent the tape of the USF-UCF game to Big East officials seeking explanation of several "questionable calls" against the Knights, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
O'Leary questioned the mark on QB Michael Greco's fourth-down run in overtime that came up an inch short. "You just hate to lose the game on a mark," O'Leary said.
Leavitt thought the fourth down mark also was wrong - but in UCF's favor.
ODDS AND ENDS: QB Matt Grothe was named the Big East's Offensive Player of the Week Monday. ... USF's road game at FIU on Sept. 20 will have a 5 p.m. kickoff and will be televised on ESPNU. ... Freshman CB George Baker received approval from the NCAA Clearinghouse on Sunday, but is expected to be redshirted this season. ... Friday's KU-USF game will feature ESPN2's Sky Cam camera.
