TAMPA - Tampa Bay area tennis fans expecting to watch Roger Federer battle Andy Murray in the U.S. Open men's final on Monday got "Dr. Phil" instead.
A rain delay over the weekend forced CBS to reschedule the men's final to 5 p.m. Monday. In a news release sent early Monday afternoon, local CBS affiliate WTSP, Channel 10, announced that it would carry the match on its high definition channel, while the station's analog channel would carry its regular programming.
The station also posted its decision on its Web site, directing viewers either to area cable company HD channels or to the U.S. Open Web site, but that did not prevent a stream of calls from disgruntled tennis fans.
"I structured my entire afternoon around this match, and I get Dr. Phil," one caller told The Tampa Tribune.
Channel 10's Web site also received predominantly negative comments.
Telephone calls to Channel 10 seeking comment were unsuccessful.
