GAINESVILLE - There aren't many things that will get UF coach Urban Meyer heated during an interview, but apparently the unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty at the end of Saturday's game between BYU and Washington is one of them.
Washington QB Jake Locker scored a late touchdown against No. 18 BYU and received a penalty for excessive celebration after throwing the ball in the air. The Huskies were penalized 15 yards on their extra point, which was subsequently blocked. Washington lost the game 28-27.
"Horrible, I can't imagine that," Meyer said.
"We coach passion and enthusiasm for the game and the thing I teach our guys is that you don't embarrass your opponent. I've seen that here before, and if a guy jumps on his teammate to celebrate, the minute they take that out of the game that's when I'm out of coaching. That's not what this is all about."
SPECIAL CHAS: Everyone knows that Meyer is as big a proponent of strong special teams play as any coach in the country.
So when he bestows high praise on P Chas Henry, you know the fourth-year coach means it.
"The best thing about Chas is a professional approach to college football," he said. "If everybody had that, I'd be heading home right now not worrying about anything. I've got my punter, I don't want anybody else.
