TAMPA - David Broadhurst and Lisa Lauver were in a room at La Quinta Inns & Suites on North 30th Street and heard a knock on the door about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
When Lauver answered the door, she heard a familiar voice, according to a Tampa Police Department report that describes what happened next.
"Let me in!" hollered a woman on the other side of the door.
It was Lauver's aunt, Jayne McDonald Holler.
As Lauver opened the door, two men forced their way in, pointed guns at Lauver and Broadhurst and demanded their cash and property. Then the men pistol-whipped the pair and took cell phones, a briefcase containing a bond certificate, and $1,400 cash.
The men then ran out of the hotel and disappeared.
Lauver, 30, and Broadhurst, 50, were not seriously injured, police said.
Detectives dusted the room for fingerprints as Lauver and Broadhurst were taken to a district office for interviews with detectives. They gave police the name and address of Lauver's aunt. At 2 a.m., police arrested Holler at 2523 E. Busch Blvd.
Holler, 45, of 4530 Clinton St. W., was charged with home invasion robbery involving more than $300. She was taken to Orient Road Jail. Bail had not been set.
Police are searching for the two men who pistol-whipped Lauver and Broadhurst.
