TAMPA - Two lanes of southbound Interstate 75 near State Road 60 have been reopened after a dump truck overturned and spilled gravel across the highway, authorities said.
Stephen Michael Workman, 27, of Brandon, was driving the Mack dump truck south on I-75 when the vehicles ahead of him began to brake abruptly, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Workman swerved left to avoid hitting the other vehicles, but lost control of his truck, the highway patrol said. The Mack truck, which was hauling gravel and crushed pavement, rolled over and spilled its contents on the road.
The truck's fuel tank ruptured, but workers managed to contain the leaking gas, troopers said. Two lanes of southbound I-75, just north of S.R.60, were closed for more than two hours, the highway patrol said.
Workman was given a citation for careless driving, troopers said.
