TAMPA - Tammie Souza, a weather forecaster from Chicago, will become the first female chief meteorologist in the Tampa-St. Petersburg television market.
WTSP, Channel 10, finalized her contract Wednesday. Souza, who is expected to be on the air here in October, takes over the position held by Dick Fletcher, who died in February after a stroke.
Souza, who works at Fox-owned WFLD in Chicago, will become one of a handful of women working as chief meteorologists at TV stations in the United States.
"Tammie has impressive credentials along with an engaging personality," said Sam Rosenwasser, WTSP's president and general manager. "She is someone who has the training and experience you can trust during times of severe weather, and enjoy during calmer days. We are very excited to have her joining us."
Souza could not be reached for comment.
