THE DIFFERENCE: Plain and simple - Newsome turnovers. The Wolves (0-2) had seven of them. Two were for touchdowns, and one put Jesuit (2-0) in a first-and-goal position. With so many, it was easy for the Tigers to overcome two first-half interceptions of their own.
GAME NOTES: Jesuit starting quarterback James Ryan was still bothered by a sprained ankle suffered in the Tigers' win against Blake last week. He played most of the first half before giving way to junior Bobby Eveld. ... Trailing 14-0, Newsome had a chance to get back into the game after Newsome's Klye Copack returned an interception 80 yards to the Jesuit 10-yard line. But the Wolves were stopped at the 2-yard line on third down and then missed a short field goal. ... Jesuit's Michael Grandoff had both interceptions for the Tigers, one for a touchdown and the other a diving catch.
STAT OF THE GAME: Both teams combined for nine turnovers.
QUOTE OF THE GAME: "It was a pretty sloppy game, but we made the plays when we had to make them. The defense played well and made big plays." - Jesuit coach Joe Ross
