LARGO - Pinellas County school superintendent candidate Alberto Carvahlo has decided to accept a job running Miami-Dade County schools.
He is associate superintendent of schools in Miami-Dade.
Pinellas County School Board Chairwoman Nancy Bostock notified board members this morning and called for a special meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday to discuss alternatives.
Pinellas voted 4-3 Wednesday to offer the job to Carvalho, bypassing the interim superintendent, Julie Janssen, who has held the job since June, and Nicholas Gledich, chief operations officer for Orange County schools.
Janssen, a 38-year school district employee, was a popular choice among many community groups.
Carvalho was offered the Miami-Dade job a few hours after being notified about the offer by Pinellas.
