TAMPA - Two airlines canceled six departures today from Tampa International Airport to Houston airports and halted three Houston arrivals because of weather-related problems in Texas that Hurricane Ike is causing.
Houston airport officials said they will close George Bush Intercontinental, which Continental Airlines serves, and William P. Hobby Airport, which Southwest Airlines uses, at 3 p.m. today.
Passengers should call their airlines, rather than airports, for flight information.
A Houston airport advisory state that no Continental flights are expected to resume Saturday. There was no prediction on Southwest flights Saturday at Hobby.
Closing the Houston airports is likely to cause problems for many passengers who use them to connect with other flights.
Houston International is a Continental hub, with Tampa passengers frequently connecting to West Coast and western Canada flights.
Southwest passengers frequently use Hobby airport for connecting flights throughout the Southwest and West Coast.
