Miami Teacher Returned Gun To Student, School Says

MIAMI - Authorities say a teacher was arrested for returning a gun to a student who had pulled the weapon during a fight at a school.

Authorities say 47-year-old Anthony Cunningham, a teacher at Miami Jackson High School, was arrested Thursday. A jail spokeswoman says he faces charges of furnishing weapons to minors, aiding escape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was released from jail on $11,000 bail.

Two teenagers have been charged with aggravated assault and gun possession in the Aug. 20 fight.

Miami-Dade Schools detectives never found the gun.

District spokesman John Schuster says Cunningham has been placed on alternate assignment away from children.
