Romo To The Rescue: QB Stops To Fix Flat

Published: September 12, 2008

IRVING, Texas - Tony Romo: Pro Bowler, playboy quarterback and, apparently, a Good Samaritan handy with an air compressor.

A couple says Romo helped them patch a flat tire on the side of a busy street last weekend after the Dallas Cowboys star returned home from a season-opening win at Cleveland.

Bill and Sharon White told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that at least 100 drivers ignored their broken-down Mercury before someone stopped late Sunday.
Sharon White said a well-dressed man "with something strange on his chin" walked up and offered a hand.

Romo needed 13 stitches after his chin was split open in the 28-10 win against the Browns.

He bent down and helped the Whites get their faulty air compressor to fill up the tire.
Sharon White said she asked twice before Romo confirmed her suspicions about the do-gooder's identity.

"I did something no 50-year-old woman should be doing, but I screamed real loud, and then jumped up and hugged him," Sharon White told the newspaper in Thursday's editions.

Bill White had a different reaction.

"Don't tell me how you guys did," he said he told Romo.

"I'm going home to watch it."

Ravens, Texans To Play Monday Night

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans' game against the Baltimore Ravens has been moved to Monday night at 8:30 because of Hurricane Ike.

The game was originally scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Hurricane Ike was headed toward the Texas coast as a category 3 storm Thursday. It was expected to make landfall between Houston and Corpus Christi sometime early Saturday morning.

The game will be broadcast on CBS stations in Houston, Baltimore and Washington as well as several smaller secondary markets.

The Texans moved their practice scheduled for today to Thursday night to allow players to have today off to take care of their homes and families.

DOLPHINS: Always one to go against the grain, Ricky Williams negotiated his own contract extension with Bill Parcells and the Dolphins, including a verbal agreement regarding a performance bonus.

Williams, 31, said he didn't ask the Dolphins to forgive the $8.6 million he has owed them since a 2004 ruling by an arbitrator. He said the extension upset his agent, Leigh Steinberg.

"He's mad because I didn't talk to him about it," Williams said Thursday. "He was looking forward to me becoming a free agent."

Williams could have tested free agency for the first time after this season. Instead, he signed a contract Aug. 31 that included a one-year extension through 2009.

SAINTS: Reached an undisclosed payment settlement with injured defensive tackle Hollis Thomas, allowing the 12-year veteran to come back later this season with the Saints or any other team.

TITANS: QB Vince Young insists he never wavered in his commitment to football.

All that concern about his mental state? He says he was upset as he dealt with his first serious injury, and he didn't realize he had to tell his mother where he was going anymore.

Young spoke publicly Thursday for the first time since Titans coach Jeff Fisher called police for help in locating the quarterback Monday night because of concerns about his emotional well-being. His mother, Felicia Young, also told a local newspaper the quarterback had indicated he didn't want to play football anymore because of all the negativity he faced.

"I was never depressed," Young said.

Also, All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth missed a second straight practice because of a mild concussion as the Titans stay cautious with him.
