THE DIFFERENCE: The Spoto defense put on an impressive display by shutting out the Wolves for the Spartans' first win of the season under new coach Dale Caparaso. The only score came on a 2-yard run up the gut by Spartans back Jamar Burns at the 8:23 mark of the second quarter.
GAME NOTES: The Spartans' offense ate up huge amounts of the clock with a superior ground attack. ... The Spoto offensive workload was spread out between four players: running backs Romondo Purcell, who had 10 carries for 83 yards and Jamar Burns with 14 carries for 38 yards, quarterback J.B. Burgess, who ran the ball 10 times for 37 yards and Rodney Williams with six carries for 28 yards. ... Caparaso said the Spartans made a coaching change this week by scrapping the original plan that implemented the spread offense in favor of the Wing-T. ... The Spoto defense was dominant, especially in the first half allowing no first downs and 4 yards of offense. ... Wolves running backs Conner and Keller Powers combined for 74 yards.
STAT OF THE GAME: There was only one completed pass by either team - a 16-yarder from Wolves QB Robby Young to WR Andy Sulsavich.
