TAMPA - The Dillard's department store at University Mall is converting to a clearance store, the company said Friday.
Julie Bull, director of investor relations for Dillard's, said the store is clearing out its regularly priced merchandise through sales. It also has begun receiving clearance merchandise from other Dillard's stores, primarily from Florida's west coast, she said.
There are nine other Dillard's clearance stores in the United States, the closest of which is in Jacksonville. The company also has 317 full-line stores in the United States.
Dillard's is putting the finishing touches on a new store at the Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel. Bull said she could not say whether the changes at the University Mall location are being done in conjunction with the new store's opening.
She said the company continually re-evaluates its stores, and the University Mall store's new clearance format will better serve the market.
