  Kudu Klip

Product review: Kudu Klip; available for $35 at www.kududesigns.com

I'm a gal who likes to change her 'do frequently. So for me, hair accessories are a necessity. And nothing gets my beauty-loving heart aflutter more than products that do some good in the world and help me look (and feel) good.

That's why I was so excited to hear about the Kudu Klip. This collection of beautiful beaded hair clips is handcrafted in South Africa, mostly by single mothers. Part of the proceeds from each sale supports African families and helps provide medical assistance, employment and housing for landmine victims.

Kudu Klips are made from decorative beads from Africa. The combs that connect the beadwork are made from galvanized wire by men known as "wire artists." The money they make from producing the clip is sent back to Africa to provide food for their families and to educate their children. Most of these men fled their homes in Zimbabwe to South Africa.

If this doesn't give you enough reason to open your wallet, what Kudu Klip does for your hair will get you there.

Kudu Klip's press kit boasts that the clip can be used to create more than 20 hair styles in less than 60 seconds. Well, I'm the type of person who has to experience something in order to believe it. I've got thick, wavy and oftentimes out-of-control-hair that has destroyed quite a few hair clips and makes barrettes beg for mercy. But my locks were no match for the Kudu Klip.

The comb system holds hair in place with nary a flyaway and no tugging or pulling, even when you lie down. Even women with short hair will look fabulously fashionable using the clip. It clamps down comfortably to the back of your hair and stays in place without sliding off.

The Kudu Klip comes in a wide range of colors and with rhinestones, crystals and wood combinations that will match any outfit. Create your own hairdo, or check out some of their ideas at www.kududesigns.com.
