Beauty Booty Settlement
Did you purchase cosmetics or perfumes from a major department store between May 29, 1994, and July 16, 2003?
If you're reading this column, my guess is yes. And if that's the case, you can get your hands on some free beauty booty.
A class action lawsuit involving several cosmetics companies and department stores is finally going to be settled.
The suit, which alleges unlawful conduct in violation of the antitrust laws in connection with pricing, includes stores such as Macy's, Lord and Taylor, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, along with major cosmetics and fragrance lines such as MAC, Clinique, Estee Lauder and Chanel.
Beginning in January, the stores are required to give out $175 million worth of products to consumers as part of the settlement. Those eligible will receive up to $25 in free products on a first-come, first-serve basis.
So, what do you have to do to claim your share of the beauty products? Go to www.cosmeticssettlement.com to leave your contact information, view a complete list of the stores and companies named as defendants in the lawsuit, and register to receive an alert notifying you when and
where the products will be given away. You also can call 1-877-604-5776 to leave your information.
Customers won't need receipts, but they will be asked to sign a form stating that they purchased products between the specified dates.
Take A (High Heel) Hike

In Tampa, the hike gets steppin' at 11 a.m. Sept. 20 in Hyde Park Village at Dakota Street. Registration is $25. For information, call (813) 541-3248.
