LAND O' LAKES - Raymond McGeehan said he simply wanted to go jogging Thursday morning at a park on Parkway Boulevard.
A 64-year-old chiropractor, McGeehan, of Land O' Lakes, was putting on a knee brace when he said he was attacked by a large dog, according to Pasco County Sheriff's Office records.
He told the sheriff's office that he had a run-in with the same dog about a week earlier.
The wellfield park is near Pine View elementary and middle schools.
McGeehan told the sheriff's office that he grabbed a machete and hunting knife from his vehicle and swung at the dog to keep it away, but more dogs came at him, records said.
McGeehan thought the dogs were pit bulls, but they were actually boxers.
The dogs' owner, Alan McLeod, 59, of Land O' Lakes, told the sheriff's office he was walking his three adult boxers and 13 puppies Thursday morning when he saw McGeehan screaming at the dogs with the machete and knife in his hands.
McLeod acknowledged the previous encounter with McGeehan, records said. That time, according to McLeod, the chiropractor had pulled a pocket knife and swung it at the dogs, one of which was barking at McGeehan.
Thinking his dogs were in danger Thursday, McLeod grabbed a board from the ground and hit McGeehan in the hand, causing him to drop the machete, records said.
McLeod said he then picked up the machete and walked toward McGeehan.
According to the sheriff's office, a passing motorist yelled at the men to stop, which they did.
McGeehan, who suffered a minor injury to his hand, was not charged with a crime.
McLeod was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery, records said.
