Bradenton Christian Shuts Out Cambridge

TAMPA - Bradenton Christian blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown and got two TD receptions from Colton Goodwin en route to the 23-0 victory Friday against host Cambridge.

Cambridge's best chance to score came in the third quarter as it drove 75 yards before failing to convert on fourth down.

Cambridge coach John Kelly said he challenged his defense after an unsatisfactory first half, and the team responded by yielding just three points in the final two quarters. Middle linebacker Logan McDougall was the standout defensive player for Cambridge, leading the team with eight tackles.

Cambridge Christian plays at Lakeland Santa Fe on Friday.

AVON PARK 6

Okeechobee senior running back Lonnie Pryor carried 24 times for 155 yards and three touchdowns and also returned the opening kick 82 yards for another score to lead the hosts.

The Red Devils (0-2) were led by junior Teddy Allen, who rushed for 80 yards on 20 carries, including a 5-yard score for Avon Park's first score of the season.

LAKE PLACID 29,

CELEBRATION 10

Lake Placid scored 29 unanswered points and got rushing touchdowns from senior Chevontray Wilson, junior Caleb Jones and junior Navarhi Holden to lead the host Green Dragons.

Lake Placid senior quarterback Zach Campbell was 5-of-6 for 39 yards and led the Green Dragons with 57 yards rushing. He found Jacob Campbell on a play-action pass in the right corner of the end zone with 1:18 left in the first half to put the Dragons up 19-3.

LAKELAND 40,

SOUTH DADE 3

Rodney Watson and Javarus McRoy scored a pair of touchdowns to pace host Lakeland.

VENICE 31,

BRADEN RIVER 17

Running back Dri Archer rushed for 196 yards with two touchdown and quarterback Trey Burton accounted for 175 yards in the non-district game.

DESOTO 29,

PORT CHARLOTTE 13

After fading in the second half of an opening- season loss at Fort Myers Dunbar, the Bulldogs got their second wind in the second half against Port Charlotte.
