NEW ORLEANS - Patrick Pinkney threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jamar Bryant with 1:41 left in the fourth quarter, and No. 14 East Carolina rallied for a 28-24 victory against Tulane on Saturday.

The Pirates (3-0, 1-0 Conference USA) vaulted into the national rankings - and national spotlight - by upsetting Virginia Tech and West Virginia in consecutive weeks, then barely escaped having Tulane (0-2, 0-1) pull the same trick on them.

The Pirates overcame four turnovers and a running game that managed only 52 yards.

Pinkney completed 22 of 32 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns, and the Pirates improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1999. ECU secured the victory when Pierre Bell intercepted Kevin Moore's pass at the Green Wave 45 with 28 seconds left.

Ross Thevenot kicked a 28-yard field goal with 13:40 left in the fourth quarter to put Tulane up 24-21.

Pinkney drove the Pirates 80 yards in nine plays for the winning score as Tulane lost its 34th consecutive game against a ranked opponent.

The Green Wave last beat a ranked team in 1982 when they defeated No. 12 LSU 31-28.

Moore was 21-for-37 for 236 yards and a 47-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Williams in the third quarter that tied it at 14.

Williams finished with eight catches for 138 yards, and Andre Anderson ran for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

Brandon Simmons broke a 7-7 halftime tie for East Carolina with a 3-yard touchdown run, capping the first drive of the second half.

The Pirates regained the lead, 21-14, on the next possession as Pinkney's screen pass to Norman Whitley turned into a 51-yard touchdown with 5:45 remaining in the third quarter.

Anderson's 1-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter tied the score again.

East Carolina's C.J. Wilson blocked Thevenot's 46-yard field-goal attempt and Quentin Cotton returned the ball 44 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead with 12:16 remaining in the second quarter.

Daniel Sets Missouri Passing Record In Rout Of Nevada

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Chase Daniel threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns and No. 6 Missouri scored on its first 10 possessions in a 69-17 win against Nevada.

Daniel was 23-for-28 and led Missouri (3-0) to seven touchdowns and a field goal before exiting in the third quarter. His backups, Chase Patton and Blaine Gabbert, led two more scoring drives before Missouri was finally forced to punt late in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers gained 651 total yards and averaged 10 yards per play. The 69 points tied a team record set against Kansas in 1969, and they've scored 173 points in three games.

Nevada (1-2) fell for the second straight time to a Big 12 opponent after losing to Texas Tech a week ago.

Daniel connected on touchdown passes of 80, 14 and 49 yards with Jeremy Maclin, and threw a 27-yarder to Jared Perry. Derrick Washington ran for two scores. Missouri also scored on a fake field goal and an interception return.

Maclin had six catches for 172 yards and tied a school record with his three TD catches.

Missouri led 14-0 2:58 into the game on Washington's 59-yard run and Maclin's 80-yard catch-and-run. That play moved Daniel to first place on the school's all-time passing yards list ahead of his predecessor, Brad Smith.

OKLAHOMA 55,

WASHINGTON 14

SEATTLE - Armed with Sam Bradford's nearly perfect passing, No. 3 Oklahoma made sure Pac-10 officials had no say in this one.

Bradford completed 18 of 21 passes for 304 yards, matched his career high with five touchdowns and ran for a sixth score to help the Sooners beat Washington.

Ryan Broyles caught two of Bradford's touchdown throws for Oklahoma (3-0), which went home for a bye feeling much better than it did on its last trip to the West Coast two years ago.

Washington (0-3) felt its largest margin of defeat at home since 1929, when it lost 48-0 to Southern California.

BYU 59, UCLA 0

PROVO, Utah - Max Hall tied a school record with seven touchdown passes and No. 18 BYU handed UCLA its worst loss in nearly 80 years, overwhelming the Bruins.

The Cougars improved to 3-0 for the first time in seven seasons and grabbed control with four touchdowns in the first 5:18 of the second quarter.

BYU forced four turnovers and blocked a field-goal attempt while stunning UCLA (1-1) in Rick Neuheisel's second game coaching his alma mater. In 1929, the Bruins were shut out by USC 76-0 and by Stanford two weeks later 57-0.

TEXAS TECH 43, SMU 7

LUBBOCK, Texas - Graham Harrell threw for 418 yards and five touchdowns, three to Michael Crabtree, to help No. 12 Texas Tech rout SMU.

SMU and first-year coach June Jones were overmatched from the outset and turnovers - five interceptions - hurt the Mustangs mightily. Safety Daniel Charbonnet had three interceptions to set a Texas Tech record for a game.

Harrell, coming off his worst game in two years in last week's 35-19 win vs. Nevada, completed 31 of 48 passes. He threw TD passes of 23, 47, 50, 7 and 44.

UTAH 58, UTAH STATE 10

LOGAN, Utah - Matt Asiata scored three touchdowns rushing and Brian Johnson threw for two more as No. 22 Utah defeated Utah State.

The Utes overcame mistakes early in each half to dominate and claim an 11th straight victory in the series.
