Who Needs To Pass?
DALLAS - Air Force's offense couldn't have been better suited to play in the wind and rain brought by the edge of Hurricane Ike.
The Falcons ran the ball 71 times, didn't complete a pass and Air Force withstood a late Houston rally for a 31-28 win in a game moved to Dallas because of the hurricane.
QB Shea Smith rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns and Kyle Lumpkin added 76 rushing yards for Air Force (3-0), which passed only seven times - without a completion.
"We were expecting bad conditions so we were ready to run the ball," said Smith, an Odessa, Texas, native who played in front of 15 family and friends in the sparse crowd.
Air Force went without a completion for only the fifth time in school history, and has won four of those. But in the first four games, the Falcons didn't even attempt a pass.
Oklahoma State Runs Over Missouri State
STILLWATER, Okla. - Junior Keith Toston ran for a career-best 148 yards and a touchdown and Oklahoma State had the second trio of 100-yard rushers in school history in the Cowboys' 57-13 win over Missouri State.
Beau Johnson rushed for 138 yards and two TDs, and Kendall Hunter added 132 more and two scores as Oklahoma State (3-0) piled up 450 yards rushing, sixth-most in school history.
Syracuse Unveils Statue Of Davis
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse University unveiled a statue of former Orange RB Ernie Davis on Saturday, a day after the world premiere of a movie about his amazing life.
Friday night, former Syracuse greats Jim Brown, Floyd Little, Art Monk, Don McPherson and 40 members of the unbeaten 1959 team that won the national championship were at the Landmark Theatre downtown for the opening of "The Express."
Davis was the star of that championship team and in 1961 became the first black player to win the Heisman Trophy. He died of leukemia in 1963 at age 23 before playing a down in the NFL.
