Tampa - A man who lost control of his car on State Road 60 and later decided to lie down in the road was run over and killed about 6 a.m. today.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Quinn Gilchrist, 20, of Valrico lost control of his Pontiac while heading east on S.R. 60 near the Polk County line. The car spun off the road and stopped in a vegetable field.
Gilchrist walked east about a quarter mile and laid down in the outside westbound lane just inside Polk County, the highway patrol said.
He was run over by a 1995 Ford van driven by Fortunato Castro-Castro, 57, of Mulberry, the patrol said.
Castro-Castro did not realize what he had struck and continued driving to County Line Road where his car stalled.
No charges were filed. Investigators did not know why Gilchrist decided to lay in the road, the accident report said.
