A 17-year-old girl is recovering from a skull fracture today after she escaped from the trunk of a moving vehicle on Friday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
Her hands and feet were bound with duct tape and her head covered with an article of clothing when she was placed in the trunk of a car, deputies said.
The teen's parents, David and Peggy Ingram of Bradenton, have been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment, according to a sheriff's office news release.
The couple was released Sunday from Manatee County Jail after posting $7,000 bail each.
The teen, whose name was not released by authorities, managed to remove the duct tape and free herself by pulling on the release cord inside the trunk, deputies said. She fell on the pavement and suffered cuts, scrapes and a skull fracture.
She was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment and later taken to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. Her condition was not available.
Authorities have not said why the incident occurred.
