WHO'S HOT

Hillsborough RB Lindsey Lamar - The senior, right, has opened the season with consecutive 100-yard rushing performances and has scored four touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving).

East Bay - Brian Thornton's Indians have looked pretty good early on, and as a result they are 2-0 for the first time since 2002.

Spoto - Dale Caparaso's Spartans are 2-0 for the first time in their short history. With Lennard - a team Spoto has never lost to - up next, 3-0 looks real possible.

Gulf - One week after notching the first season-opening win under fourth-year Coach Jay Fulmer, the Bucs improved to 2-0 for the first time since 1995.

WHO'S NOT

Cambridge Christian - Coach John Kelly's offense is still looking for its first points of the season, and the Lancers' latest loss - a 23-0 setback to Bradenton Christian - hurts twice as much since it was a district game.

Tampa Catholic - The Crusaders, who reached last year's Class 2A state title game, are 0-2 for the first time since 2004, the year before Coach Bob Henriquez returned to the TC sideline.

Sickles - The Gryphons, the darlings of 2007, are 0-2 and things don't get any easier next week for Pat O'Brien's squad with 2-0 Tampa Bay Tech looming.

Newsome - The Wolves started 3-0 in 2007, but Kenneth Hiscock's squad must get things turned around offensively (one touchdown in the first two games) or an 0-3 start is a real possibility.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Oh, to be a fly on the wall during Gaither's film review session. Last year, when the Cowboys got off to a 0-2 start, Coach Mark Kantor gathered his team for a heart-to-heart and asked his players to rededicate themselves. They did, and they reeled off six consecutive wins.

The Cowboys (0-2) find themselves in a similar situation in 2008 following a 49-7 loss to Plant on Friday. After the game, Kantor said his team didn't have the "want-to" and that Plant has players who "want to." When asked if he was going to have another meeting, Kantor said to print that quote and there would be no need for a meeting.

BY THE NUMBERS

Wins for Wharton in 2004, the last time the Wildcats started a season 0-2.

Consecutive regular-season losses by Chamberlain against Hillsborough. The Terriers host the Chiefs this week.

Average yards per rush by East Bay senior FB Chaz Burrows through two games. Burrows had 88 yards on nine carries in Friday's win over Durant, giving him 357 yards on 25 carries this season.

Unanswered points scored by Lennard in Friday's 21-14 win over Sickles, giving first-year Longhorns coach George Edington his first win.

Total pass attempts for Alonso quarterbacks in 2007. Junior C.J. Bennett has 98 attempts through two games after throwing 56 times in Friday's loss to Hillsborough.
