TAMPA - Two Tampa women had a child in their vehicle when they drove under the influence Sunday night in separate incidents, Hillsborough County deputies say.
Deputies arrested Alba Arregoitia, 42, about 8:25 p.m. and Jean Strohmeyer, 40, about 9:24 p.m.
Each was charged with driving under the influence and child neglect.
A deputy saw Arregoitia driving a 1995 Dodge south at Himes and Hillsborough avenues. The Dodge was traveling 50 mph in a 40 mph zone and failing to stay within its lane, and it nearly struck two vehicles, a criminal arrest affidavit states. A child not wearing a seat belt was in the back seat, the affidavit states.
Arregoitia had watery eyes and alcohol on her breath, according to the affidavit, and tests showed she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.128 and 0.118. Florida law presumes a driver impaired with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08.
Strohmeyer was weaving her vehicle while driving north on U.S. 301, deputies say. There were two children in her vehicle, deputies say.
She had slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and had red, watery eyes, an arrest affidavit states. She refused to have her blood-alcohol level tested, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Jail Web site.
Strohmeyer and Arregoitia remained in Orient Road Jail, with bail set at $2,500 each.
