GAINESVILLE - QB Tim Tebow has made several big plays during his time at the University of Florida, but the single play that may have made the Heisman trophy winner a household name came two years ago today.
With 7:53 to play, the Gators were facing a fourth-and-1 while trailing Tennessee 20-14 at Neyland Stadium. UF coach Urban Meyer called on then-freshman Tebow to convert what still may be the biggest single play of his career, and Tebow came through.
"It was my first big play at the University of Florida," Tebow said. "Being able to go in there and contribute and keep that drive going and beat Tennessee on the way to a national championship was huge."
That play gave Gators fans a glimpse into what was to come with Tebow at the helm, but his teammates saw it just a bit earlier.
"Tebow kept telling Meyer to give him the ball," WR Percy Harvin said.
"Coach said, 'If I put you in you better get this.' Tebow looked at him with this crazy look and he went in there and got it."
