TAMPA - Police used a Taser on a man Monday night, causing him to drop an unloaded pistol, a preliminary report states.

Jeffrey L. Parker, 32, of 7816 N. Cortez St., told Tampa police he was trying to kill himself while fleeing officers and had several rounds of ammunition, the report states.

Parker was held at the Orient Road Jail today on $401,750 bail. He is charged with misdemeanor stalking, misdemeanor obstructing an officer without violence and several felony counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the report, police were looking for Parker about 9:20 p.m. in connection with a domestic violence case when they saw him riding a bicycle near Hillsborough Avenue. Parker took off, and police found him again near the 3400 block of North Phillips Street and 500 block of East Hanna Avenue.

An officer saw Parker fumbling with something in front of him while Parker ran and, thinking Parker had a weapon, zapped him with a Taser, the report states.

Parker dropped an unloaded .45-caliber Ruger pistol, the report states. As officers arrested him, they found he had 44 rounds of ammunition for the weapon along with a full eight-round magazine, police said. The pistol's serial numbers had been removed.

Parker told the officers he was trying to take his own life while fleeing, the report states.

He and the woman he stalked had been dating and had lived together in the past, a criminal arrest affidavit states. Parker text-messaged the woman all day long, and Monday night he beat on her doors and windows and broke into her home, causing $50 damage to a window, according to the affidavit.
