St. Petersburg police have shut down a section of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North after a city garbage truck apparently accidentally pulled down some power lines, knocking several poles into the roadway.
The road will be shut down to all traffic in both directions between 94th Avenue North and Gandy Boulevard North for at least four hours. Motorists are advised to use either I-275 or Fourth Street North, especially those who are traveling to Tropicana Field for the Rays-Red Sox game tonight at 7:10 p.m.
According to initial reports, the truck had its hydraulic lift in the up position when it struck some overhead wires, pulling poles down. One of the wires landed on a vehicle, but a passenger was safely removed from her car. There are no reported injuries.
