TAMPA - Police arrested an 18-year-old Tampa man late Monday after the vehicle he was driving struck a police car on the passenger side, according to a report.
Jeremy Carlyle, of 3208 E. Comanche Ave., was held Tuesday at Orient Road Jail on $30,000 bail. He was charged with felony aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and felony grand theft of a motor vehicle, among other offenses.
A preliminary report states that Tampa police Officer Daniel Spears was driving east on Chelsea Street about 11:48 p.m. Monday en route to a call when he activated his emergency lights to pass a 1998 Nissan Maxima.
Carlyle, who was driving the Maxima, struck the officer's car on the passenger side as Spears tried to pass, the report states. Carlyle then pulled off the road and struck a utility pole, the report states.
Another officer arrested Carlyle while Spears arrested two passengers in the Maxima. A third passenger was able to escape, police said. There was no information available Tuesday on the arrested passengers and no description of the passenger who escaped.
The Nissan had been reported stolen in St. Petersburg, police said.
