TAMPA - A Wesley Chapel man is accused of breaking into two vehicles - one while the driver was pumping gas - and then leading Hillsborough County deputies on a chase before his arrest, records show.
Trevor Lee Johnson, 41, was held without bail Tuesday at Orient Road Jail because of a probation violation in another case. Deputies arrested him on several felony charges, including aggravated fleeing to elude, burglary and grand theft.
A woman with him, Lisa Renee Martz, 44, of Tampa, also was arrested on felony burglary and grant theft charges. She was held Tuesday at Orient Road Jail on $10,000 bail.
According to affidavits, Johnson and Martz pulled into a Shell station, at 5935 Memorial Highway, about 7:52 p.m. Monday. While Martz remained in the passenger seat of Johnson's white Ford Contour, "acting as a lookout," Johnson opened the passenger-side door of a woman's Jeep while she was pumping gas; he left it when the woman spotted him, the affidavit states.
About 30 minutes later, Johnson entered a 2005 Nissan Murano through the unlocked passenger-side door in the 6500 block of West Hillsborough Avenue and took about $400 worth of belongings, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies following up on the burglaries and description of the Ford tried to detain the vehicle at a fast-food restaurant at Hillsborough and Lois avenues, but the driver drove in reverse through the drive-through, the sheriff's office said.
The Ford caused at least one crash while trying to elude deputies before being stopped in the Robles Park area at North Avon and East Janette avenues, about 5 miles from the restaurant, the sheriff's office said.
There were no details on that crash in affidavits Tuesday.
