Amy Poehler is spreading her small screen wings and flying away. She says she will take a break from "Saturday Night Live" after the November election to give birth to her first child.
"It's gonna be really hard - Boyz II Men hard - to say goodbye to yesterday," Amy says in the new issue of Men's Vogue. "'SNL' was dangerous, late-night, last-minute and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down."
And it gets worse, or better, depending on your point of view. She's not coming back to "SNL" after maternity leave. Instead, Poehler is preparing to star in her own NBC series from the executive producers of "The Office."
Comedian Gets Christmas Music Special
O come, all ye Colbert faithful.
Stephen Colbert will host his own Christmas special this year, Comedy Central announced Tuesday.
"A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!" will air Nov. 23 as a one-hour special.
It will be a musical special featuring John Legend, Elvis Costello, Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, Feist - and "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart, who's slated to sing a duet with Colbert of a song simply titled "Hanukkah." (The song Colbert is to sing with Nelson appears to be a version of "The Little Drummer Boy" - called "Little Dealer Boy.")
Most of the special's songs have been written by "Daily Show" executive producer David Javerbaum and Fountains of Wayne's bassist Adam Schlesinger.
A DVD of the special will be released Nov. 25. Part of the proceeds will go to the charity Feeding America.
It's Quite Unusual: Tom Jones Has New Album
After 15 years without a new album in the United States, Tom Jones will release a disc of almost entirely original material this fall.
The 68-year-old singer will release "24 Hours" on Nov. 25 on S-Curve Records. It's a retro-tinged album much in the style of Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" that finds the Welshman's voice as strong as ever.
"The fire is still in me," Jones told The Associated Press in a recent interview, speaking by phone from his home in Los Angeles. "Not to be an oldie, but a goodie. I want to be a contender."
The disc was produced by British production duo Future Cat, who have cut tracks for Lily Allen, Kate Nash and others. With backing horns and an almost Stax Records kind of soul, the sound is distinctly retro.
Since he released the hit "It's Not Unusual" in 1965, Jones has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
