Alonso's McAllister Back At Practice

A cut to his hand won't keep Demonte McAllister sidelined anymore.

Alonso coach Mike Heldt said McAllister returned to practice on Wednesday, five days after suffering a cut that required six stitches. McAllister was hurt in the Ravens' game against Hillsborough last Friday night while making a tackle in the third quarter.

Heldt also expects the FSU commit to play Friday against Blake.

"I told him you can't let six stitches keep you out," Heldt said. "We'll be OK."

Giles Questionable For Freedom Game

Gaither starting TB Jarvis Giles was back on the practice field Tuesday, but in a very limited role.

Giles, who has been sidelined with a severe hamstring strain, said he basically was able to run through some individual drills, but not much else. He had hoped to return for Friday's game against Freedom, but he isn't optimistic about that timeline.

"It's really sore," Giles said. "The trainer doesn't think I should go Friday."

The University of Tennessee commit has missed consecutive games with the injury he sustained in the Kickoff Classic against Durant on Aug. 29. Giles was hurt when he took a helmet to the back of his leg. With the key to their offense sidelined, the Cowboys have dropped two straight games.

Coach Mark Kantor said it is looking like Giles will make his regular-season debut on Sept. 26 against Jefferson.

Chiefs Kicker May Not Play

Chamberlain K Austin Pullaro is battling a groin injury and is questionable for Friday's game against Hillsborough, Coach Billy Turner said.

That may sound like the least of Turner's problems, but he is well aware of the speed on Hillsborough's special teams.

"They wouldn't return against us because he'd kick it out of the end zone," he said. "I expect him to play. A game like [this] can be lost on a field goal."

SKONICKI COMMITS: Newsome senior P Brian Skonicki has verbally committed to Daytona Beach Community College, Newsome baseball coach Zach Walker said Wednesday.

Skonicki also was receiving interest from Florida Atlantic, Iowa and Florida Tech, but he chose the Falcons because "he was really sold on that program," Walker said.

Skonicki went 4-1 with a 3.78 ERA for the Wolves as a junior. In 33 1/3 innings pitched, he yielded 27 hits while striking out 39.

RECRUITING: Hillsborough High RB Lindsey Lamar, one of the top recruits in the state, will visit Wake Forest on Sept. 27 and Iowa State on Oct. 4. Lamar leads the Terriers with 247 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
