TRILBY - A toddler was flown by medical helicopter to Tampa General Hospital after being run over twice by his 26-year-old father this afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Andrew F. Pope III, 1 1/2, apparently walked behind his father's four-door Mercury while his father, Andrew F. Pope Jr., was backing out of a dirt driveway at a home they were visiting at 37125 Trilby Road, said Sgt. Steve Gaskins.
Pope Jr. didn't see the boy and backed over him with the car's right rear tire, according to a highway patrol report. Unsure of what happened, he drove forward and ran over his son again with the right rear tire at about 2:30 p.m.
The toddler was in critical condition this evening, Gaskins said.
