A federal judge sentenced a 74-year-old man to nearly 20 years in prison today for his long involvement in a drug-trafficking organization.
U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Kovachevich sentenced Miguel Rendon of Manatee County to 19 years and seven months in prison and fined him $100,000, according to a news release from the Middle District of Florida United States Attorney's Office.
Authorities say Rendon was a high-level drug trafficker from the late 1990s through 2006, helping move large shipments of cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana from Texas to Manatee County.
Rendon was found guilty of several drug-related charges in May.
Authorities say Rendon distributed the drugs, stored them on his property, rented out property in Manatee County to the organization's members and provided high-interest loads to finance operations.
Judge Kovachevich also entered a forfeiture judgment against Rendon in the amount of $3.3 million and an order for forfeiture of seven properties that combined are worth more than $1 million.
