Palin To Visit Retirement Enclave

TAMPA - Sunday's on-again, off-again visit of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to The Villages, a large retirement community northwest of Orlando, is back on, and open to the public.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama will make a campaign stop in Miami today and appear at a rally in Jacksonville on Saturday.

Palin will appear at an outdoor rally at Market Square at The Villages.

Tickets will be available but not required, and can be obtained beginning today from 12:30 to 7 p.m. at these locations:

•Hillsborough County Victory Office, downtown Tampa: 142 W. Platt St.; (813) 254-8010

•Hillsborough Republican Party Victory Office: 800 W. Lumsden Rd., Brandon, (813) 657-6499

•North Tampa Victory Office: 6904 W. Linebaugh Ave., Tampa, (813) 968-3238

The event was first leaked to reporters early this week, then canceled, then reinstated.

Concern about typical Florida summer afternoon thunderstorms caused internal campaign disagreement over the event, some Florida GOP insiders said.

Events late in a presidential campaign are often planned at the last minute, and schedules revised on short notice, as polling shows where the candidate needs a boost.

Some public polls late this week have shown Barack Obama climbing back into a tie with McCain in Florida, a state McCain has said he must win, after trailing McCain following the GOP convention.

Campaign insiders said Palin will make another visit to Florida on Oct. 6-7. She's expected to attend mainly fundraising events in Palm Beach County, Naples and Jacksonville, but public events, possibly including the Tampa Bay area, may be arranged.
