TRILBY - A 11/2-year-old boy was flown by medical helicopter to Tampa General Hospital after accidentally being run over twice by his father Thursday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
About 2:30 p.m., Andrew F. Pope III apparently walked behind the four-door Mercury of his father, Andrew F. Pope Jr., while the father was backing out of a dirt driveway at a home they were visiting at 37125 Trilby Road, Sgt. Steve Gaskins said. Pope Jr. didn't see the boy and backed over him with the car's right rear tire, according to a highway patrol report. Unsure of what happened, he drove forward and ran over his son again with the same tire, the report said.
The boy was in critical condition Thursday night, Gaskins said.
