TAMPA - A Tampa man has been told he will spend the next seven years behind bars after pleading guilty to cocaine conspiracy charges.
U.S. District Judge James S. Moody Jr. sentenced Oscar Fernandez, 30, to seven years and three months in prison for conspiring to possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine with his co-defendant Benjamin Torres.
A package containing a kilogram of cocaine was mailed to Torres' Tampa address, court documents show. Fernandez paid Torres to receive that package and at least three other packages from Puerto Rico, the documents show.
Fernandez and Torres, both of Tampa, pleaded guilty to the charges on May 7. Torres, 32, was sentenced in August to almost five years in prison.
