At Stake
Chamberlain: It's been six years since the Chiefs have defeated Hillsborough. This season, they are nationally ranked and poised to go farther in the playoffs than they did last year (lost in regional finals). A victory over Hillsborough would keep Chamberlain on that path.
Hillsborough: This game is more than just for bragging rights. A win would prove the Terriers belong among the elite in Hillsborough County. Currently ranked No. 4 in the Tribune's Top 10, they'd certainly leapfrog the tied-for-No. 2 Chiefs.
Key Stat
Chamberlain: QB Dontae Aycock and TB Kenny Allen have combined for 408 rushing yards in the first two games this season. The Chiefs are averaging 302 yards of offense per game.
Hillsborough: The Terriers have won five consecutive contests against the Chiefs. In those games, Hillsborough outscored Chamberlain 133-28. Two of the victories were shutouts, including last year, the only time the Chiefs were shut out that season.
Keep An Eye On
Chamberlain: Rico Valdez, who started at cornerback at the beginning of the season but was moved to strong safety in the middle of the Sept. 5 Gaither game. Valdez's speed and tackling abilities will be key in trying to contain a multifaceted Hillsborough offense.
Hillsborough: Terrence Mitchell. This two-way player shows off his tremendous speed on offense as a wide receiver and also on defense as a safety. He'll play an integral role in trying to defuse Chamberlain's triple-option threat.
Key Matchups
When Chamberlain Has The Ball: The Chiefs are a three-headed monster on offense. Led by QB Dontae Aycock and RBs Kenny Allen and Lamond Scott, this pick-your-poison style of play is hard to defend. Aycock runs the offense well and is just as dangerous with his legs as he is with his arm.
When Hillsborough Has The Ball: The Terriers' strong offensive line opens plenty of running room for Lindsey Lamar, the county's fourth-leading rusher, and also provides great protection for QB Tarean Austin. Austin's 331 yards of passing last week proved Hillsborough can air it out.
Quotables
"Hillsborough vs. Chamberlain is a special game because we're only a few blocks apart. If you beat Hillsborough, you've done something." - Chamberlain coach Billy Turner
"Contrary to public belief, Plant coach Robert Weiner did not invent the forward pass. We knew that it was legal." - Hillsborough head coach Earl Garcia in reference to his team's 331 passing yards last week.
"I kind of think everybody out here wants to win this game for ourselves but also for Coach Turner. I know I am." - Chamberlain QB Dontae Aycock
