TAMPA - TAMPA The number of alcohol-related traffic fatalities rose 13 percent in 2007 compared with the previous year, according to statistics released today.
The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles released the 2007 Florida Crash Statistics Report on Friday. The report is available online at http://www.flhsmv.gov/hsmvdocs/CS2007.pdf.
The overall number of traffic fatalities statewide last year dropped 4 percent compared with 2006, from 3,365 to 3,221, the report states.
However, alcohol-related fatalities rose 13 percent during this time frame, from 1,099 to 1,244.
