TAMPA - Police say a 21-year-old man beat and choked his 16-year-old wife and his 2-year-old stepdaughter after the child made a mess with cotton swabs and powder.
Tampa police arrested Timothy Joseph Gilley of Tampa about 1:40 a.m. Friday on choking, false imprisonment and child abuse charges, records show. He also is charged with violating probation on burglary and grand theft charges.
Gilley was being held later Friday at Orient Road Jail. Bail had not been set.
According to an affidavit, Gilley on Wednesday removed the 2-year-old's diaper and began hitting her back and buttocks after discovering the mess. When his wife tried to intervene, he grabbed her by the hair, struck her on the head, choked her and took her cell phone, the affidavit states.
Gilley locked his wife in the house, police said.
On Thursday, Gilley's wife was allowed to leave the house to go to night school, police said. She went to a friend's house and called police.
