SARASOTA COUNTY - A sawed-off shotgun used in a robbery Tuesday was found Friday about 40 yards from an elementary school's property line, the sheriff's office said.
A father and son, Donald Samber Jr. and Donald Samber III, burst into the trailer in the 4900 block of Victoria Avenue, demanded prescription pills and were stabbed by the man they tried to rob, the Sheriff's Office said.
They reportedly beat up the man and fled, and the resulting manhunt led authorities to lock down five schools in the area.
The weapon was found Friday morning in a drainage area about 275 yards from Ashton Elementary School's center building on campus.
Donald Samber III, who already faced charges of attempted murder and home-invasion robbery along with his father, now faces another charge of possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of a short-barreled shotgun.
