LAKELAND - Lakeland has a rich history of making quick work of opponents and having the running clock implemented because of a lopsided score.
That wasn't the case in Friday night's game, but the Dreadnaughts still rolled over Winter Haven (1-2) with ease in a 36-13 victory at Bryant Stadium.
Lakeland (2-0) controlled the ball for most of the first half and was looking to expand its 10-0 lead when quarterback Jarred Haggins fired a pass into the arms of Winter Haven's Arkim Hall, who raced down the sideline to score just before halftime.
"We were moving the ball pretty well until that one interception," said Lakeland coach Bill Castle, who was honored with the FHSAA Coach of the Century award before the game. "We weren't blazing up and down the field, but we were moving the chains."
The Dreadnaughts came out hot in the second half, scoring 26 consecutive points.
The offensive workload was spread among several Dreadnaughts running backs.
Steward Butler only had three carries, but he tore off two 56-yard touchdowns and ended up with 116 rushing yards.
Lakeland running Rodney Watson, the half-brother of University of Florida back Chris Rainey, also ran well, carrying 11 times for 47 yards and two scores. Aaron Truedell had 10 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Haggins finished with 71 yards on 6-of-8 passing.

SEBRING - Okeechobee's Lonnie Pryor showed Sebring why he is a Division-I prospect, powering through the defense for 175 yards and two touchdowns.
Pryor, who has committed to Florida State, scored on touchdown runs of 47 and 3 yards, while the Okeechobee defense sacked Sebring's quarterbacks eight times and held the Streaks to 53 yards in the second half.
Sebring's Daniel Burnett rushed for 115 yards.
