THE DIFFERENCE: Ball control by Newsome and inopportune turnovers by Durant. The Cougars fumbled on the Wolves' 4 and fumbled a punt on their own 22 in the first half. The team threw an interception on Newsome's 15 with one minute to play.
GAME NOTES: Linebacker-turned-fullback Trent Cornwell punched the ball in for a 1-yard touchdown run for Newsome to open the scoring. Their second touchdown came with five seconds before the half when Matt Klenke lobbed a corner pass to 6-foot-3 wide receiver Ron Noble. That TD was set up by a 76-yard punt return by Kyle Copack, who not only returns punts, but also punts for Newsome. He also made a TD-saving tackle as the last defender on one of his own punts. Conner Powers ran the ball 23 times for 67 yards, mostly pounding the ball up the middle. Anthony finished with 78 yards in 12 carries. Durant running back Ryan Rice ran for 67 yards on 17 carries.
STAT OF THE GAME: Durant quarterback Daniel Coan, who didn't play until the third quarter, completed nine passes in 15 attempts for 123 yards. At one point, he completed seven in a row to score one TD and mount a second-half comeback. However, his last throw was intercepted by linebacker Cornwell at the Newsome 15, stopping any hope of a comeback.
