METAIRIE, La. - The "piano man," Joey Harrington, has landed a new gig in New Orleans. He'll be playing third fiddle behind starting quarterback Drew Brees and backup Mark Brunell.

Harrington signed with the Saints and participated in his first practice Friday at the team's suburban training center, a day before the Saints were set to leave for Sunday's game at Denver.

"When I say it's going to be a great fit, I think it's in all areas," Harrington said.

Harrington, a standout at Oregon also known for his talent as a pianist, has spent six seasons in the NFL since being drafted third overall by Detroit in 2002. He played for Miami in 2006 and for Atlanta last season.

He appeared in 12 games for the Falcons, completing nearly 62 percent of his passes for 2,215 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.

To make room on the active roster, the Saints waived defensive tackle Alvin McKinley.

Meanwhile, Coach Sean Payton said linebacker Scott Fujita, who missed last week's game with a bruised right knee, also will sit out at Denver, as will cornerback Aaron Glenn (ankle) and tight end Mark Campbell (hamstring).

JAGUARS: Receiver Jerry Porter likely will miss a third consecutive game Sunday at Indianapolis.

Although Porter (hamstring) was listed as questionable on Friday's injury report, Coach Jack Del Rio said he doesn't believe the team's top offseason free-agent acquisition will play against the Colts.

PACKERS: Linebacker Nick Barnett said he will appeal the second fine he received in as many weeks from the NFL.

Barnett was fined $7,500 earlier this week for a helmet-to-helmet contact on a hit of Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna in the last game.

Barnett was fined $7,500 last week for a horse-collar tackle of Minnesota quarterback Tarvaris Jackson in the Packers' opener Sept. 8.

RAVENS: Nose guard Kelly Gregg will remain sidelined for at least two more weeks with cartilage problems in his surgically repaired left knee, Coach John Harbaugh said Friday.

VIKINGS: Star running back Adrian Peterson returned to practice Friday, but he was limited in his work and remained questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers because of a hamstring injury.
