SPRING HILL - An Atlanta man who was stopped for racing his Jaguar with a motorcycle had a pistol on each hip and an alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit, authorities said.
Gerald K. Deaguiar, 39, was racing his 2007 silver Jaguar at 90 mph with a 2008 black Suzuki motorcycle Friday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Trooper Dawayne Maddux cited the motorcycle driver, 22-year-old Gina M. Belmont of Spring Hill, for traffic violations and released her, a highway patrol report said. As Maddux started sobriety tests on Deaguiar, he told the trooper he was armed. Maddux found two semiautomatic pistols on Deaguiar, one on each hip and fully loaded with extra magazines, the report said.
At the Hernando County Jail, Deaguiar provided a blood-alcohol level breath sample of 0.309, the report said. A driver in Florida is presumed intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08.
Deaguiar was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, racing and possession of a firearm while intoxicated, the report said. It said Deaguiar has a concealed weapons permit so no other firearm charges were filed.
Due to the high alcohol level in his sample, Deaguiar was hospitalized for evaluation before being taken to the jail, the report said. He was released on $1,250 bail about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
