It's About Time For Sheriff White To Go
I concur with Bill Salter (letter Sept. 7) that Sheriff Bob White has got to go.
For the past six months my neighborhood has been hounded by the revving of a truck that is either souped-up or minus a muffler. The noise is deafening and occurs at all hours of the day and night - sometimes as late as 2 or 3 a.m. At least 50 calls have been made to the sheriff's office, to no avail.
During one call, my neighbor reached a detective who told him nothing could be done because they needed a calibrator to determine the decibel of the noise. He said they did have a calibrator but no one was certified to use it. He added that he was certified in St. Pete but not in Pasco.
On Friday night of last week at 11 p.m., he not only revved his truck; he had a radio playing so loud. I could hear every word of the song while he was yelling "yahoo."
These disturbances are intolerable. Yet after many calls to the sheriff's office, nothing has been done, and the noise continues. Sheriff White would not let this continue if he lived here. We pay taxes like everyone else. It's about time we got some relief.
Sheriff White must go.

Do The Math, If You Can
My wife and I just took a trip to our local library - three miles from our home - and discovered that it will be our last. Due to budget cuts and because we live in Pasco, we can no longer check out materials from a Hillsborough County library without paying a $100 yearly fee. So, since Pasco County has failed to build a library within a 15-mile radius of our home, our next "One Tank Trip" will be to the library. Do you think Pasco County will deduct $100 from our taxes so that we can pay for Hillsborough County library access? Here's to illiteracy, Pasco!

It's About The Issues
During the time that Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (Alaska has the nation's highest rate of sexual assaults) sexual assault victims/insurance companies were billed for the costs of rape kits and forensic examinations by the city of Wasilla.
Joe Biden co-sponsored the Violence Against Women Act.
Which candidate seems to be more concerned about women?
This election is about more than hair and lipstick. This election is about issues.

Many Stories To Tell
I realize how devastating the hurricane was that the South just went through, but I can remember the one we had back in September 1938, the day after my 18th birthday. I can remember the destruction between South Carolina and Massachusetts on the East Coast.
We had a river called the Acushnet River that rose to a high of 15 feet.
The loss of lives was very high.
Since 1990, I have seen many storms.

Meeting Disappointing
I attended the school board meeting on Tuesday regarding the budget. I was disappointed and angered by the patronizing response from the board members after employee testimonials regarding the need for step increases and minimal raises. They did not acknowledge the fact that negotiations are part of the school-related personnel and instructional contracts; they did not promise to consider step increases and minimal raises, and they did not respect us as professionals! I believe that Heather Fiorentino will not be re-elected, nor will these board members. The only person who listened was Marge Whaley. Thank the voters for getting Joanne Hurley elected to carry on Marge's legacy. I believe the voters will come through for us with Steve Donaldson for superintendent, as well.
We are union members working to better the future, both for our working conditions, pay and, most importantly, for our students' quality of education! You should all be ashamed of yourselves. We teachers and school-related are what make this system work each day. I expected more from all of you, especially you, Mrs. Fiorentino. You could take care of the teachers/school-related personnel of Pasco County Schools as well as the students. We all know it is possible to do both. Additionally, not a single word from the superintendent? Come on. That's the easy way!
