TAMPA - Three Tampa residents tried breaking into a vehicle Sunday night so they could steal electronics to sell at Plant High School, Tampa police say.
On Sunday, officers spotted a Ford Focus with no headlights on Rome Avenue. Two people were in the Ford.
Officers approached it and saw a third person trying the door handle of a car parked in front of 8408 N. Rome Ave. That person had an unidentified object in his hand, officers say.
When officers approached that person, he got into the front passenger side of the Ford, trying to hide as the vehicle left the area with no headlights on, a police report states.
Officers stopped the Ford and saw several flashlights and screwdrivers inside it.
The men had been "looking for small electronic devices such as iPods, cell phones and other electronics to sell at Plant High School," according to the report.
"This is the first incident that we've had where suspects were looking to steal and later sell electronics at Plant High School," police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said.
Officers charged 20-year-old Anthony Jose Sosa, 17-year-old Brock Robert Ryan and 18-year-old Pedro Rivera with felonies, police say.
Details on Ryan weren't available because he is a juvenile.
Rivera was charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy to commit auto burglary, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Jail Web site. He remained in Orient Road Jail, with bail set at $5,000.
Sosa was charged with attempted burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy to commit auto burglary, according to the Web site. He remained in Orient Road Jail, with bail set at $4,000.
