GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Five public meetings are planned next month by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on its operations of the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River basin.
The agency's water control manuals spell out how its reservoirs should be managed including how much water is released.
Meetings on the operational manuals are scheduled for Apalachicola; Dothan, Ala.; and LaGrange; Marietta; and Gainesville, Ga. The Gainesville event, the evening of Oct. 29, at the Georgia Mountains Center, is likely to focus on nearby Lake Lanier.
Lanier residents and Georgia politicians have long criticized the corps for continuing to operate the lake according to a manual last updated 50 years ago.
