TAMPA - Hank Steinbrenner was all set to attend the final regular-season game at Yankee Stadium. Then he decided it was more important to watch it someplace else — with his dad, on TV.

So the New York Yankees' co-chairman went over to his father's house in Tampa and joined George Steinbrenner for Sunday night's 7-3 win over Baltimore.

"It was emotional," Hank Steinbrenner said Tuesday at the Yankees' spring training complex. "It was especially for me, watching with him. And hopefully him, watching it with me, too. He was very happy I was there. He enjoyed it. Of course, they talked a lot about him, and that was nice."

Hank and brother Hal took over most of the daily operation of the Yankees from their father last fall.
The Yankees face a busy offseason, which will include organizational meetings that could start next week.

"I've already got a lot of ideas," Hank Steinbrenner said. "I think we're on the same page on the biggest stuff. We're certainly not going to stand pat."

One of the first topics will be whether general manager Brian Cashman, whose contract expires Oct. 31, will return.

Hank Steinbrenner earlier this season told Cashman that he wanted him to remain with the team. Cashman and the Steinbrenner brothers are expected to meet shortly after the regular season ends, and make a final decision before the free agency period begin.

"It's pretty much up to him now," Steinbrenner said. "He knows the schedule, so he'll make the decision as quickly as he can."
